I realized that I truly haven’t been back here since the end of 2020. I’m not sure what I was doing in 2021… oh I don’t know, living through and processing our collective existential crisis or something?? This year, I’ve been deep in this unintended year of yes, doing LITERALLY everything but writing, but I’m back! Maybe? Idk. We’ll see. We’re not unnecessarily pressuring ourselves at this big age.
I did, however, just get off a month-long emotional rollercoaster and thought, “Hey, maybe I should share this with the world!” They had us in the first half, not gonna lie, but GOD! Am I the drama? Rhetorical. I’ll spare y’all the details (for now), as I’m still processing in the periphery, but the takeaway is: Pick YOU.
I don’t mean ‘pick you’ in the fuck the world kinda way, although that might work for you. I mean ‘pick you’ in a more general sense — do you, trust your intuition, give yourself grace. This looks different for everyone. Maybe you’re the type to find solace in healthy isolation and introspection — great! Maybe you’re the type to find an outlet in interests and hobbies — fantastic! Or perhaps you’re like me… the type to spiral, confide in friends, have a cocktail, tweet it, flip it & reverse it — now WE, are in a league of our own, truly impeccable taste (read: childish).
The bottom line is this: nobody really knows wtf going on. If they tell you they do, it’s a boldface lie, Your Honor! The thing with life is that we figure it out as we go, so live it on your terms. Stay your course, find ways to do right by you and those that matter to you, trust the process, accept the outcome, and pick the lessons up along the way.
